We kick off today’s update with my thoughts on Apple’s 15-page response to the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (ACCC). The entity is conducting an inquiry into app marketplaces. My expectation is that quite a few of the arguments found in Apple’s response will be utilized by the company in its upcoming trial against Epic Games. The discussion then turns to three things Apple accomplishes by expanding its Independent Repair Provider Program. We conclude with why it is appropriate to treat news of Foxconn contemplating electric vehicle contract manufacturing in the U.S. with some hesitation.

The discussion goes over the concept of last mile and why Apple won’t be focused on food or package delivery. The update then turns to a story from a few years ago about Apple thinking of launching a fleet of autonomous vans for its employees. We discuss the idea of how Apple can test Apple Cars before a public launch and why going forward with plans of a private fleet of autonomous vehicles for Apple employees isn’t a bad idea.
