Today’s update kicks off with my thoughts on Elon Musk’s controversial tweet about trying to get Tesla acquired by Apple but getting turned down for a meeting by Tim Cook. We go over the backstory between Musk and Apple and why I think Musk looks at Apple differently than other potential competitors. The discussion then turns to how Apple uses M&A as a tool. We go over what Apple looks for, and doesn’t look for, in pursuing M&A and whether or not my opinion regarding Apple and Tesla M&A has changed. The update concludes with a look at Tesla’s 4Q20 delivery numbers and where things go from here.

The court’s opinion was interesting on a few levels as it pertains to Apple’s strength in defending against claims that the company is using the App Store to compete unfairly. We conclude with a look at GM’s Nikola mistake and what it tells us about the current state of the auto market.

We kick off today’s email with my thoughts on Bloomberg’s report that AirPods shipments are expected to double to 60 million units in 2019. The discussion goes over why the numbers found in Bloomberg’s report don’t look accurate. The email then turns to Tesla Cybertruck. After going over the unveiling, we focus on answering whether or not Tesla is altering the course of the auto industry.
