Today's Above Avalon daily update includes the following stories:

  • Netflix Raises U.S. Subscription Prices

  • Wordle’s Popularity Supports the App Store

  • Fortnite Returns to iPhone via Nvidia

We kick off today’s update with my thoughts on Netflix raising U.S. prices by 10% and why the company is now facing its biggest test to date. The update then turns to discussing how Wordle’s success validates one of Apple’s primary arguments with the App Store. We conclude with news that Nvidia and Epic Games have released a mobile browser version of Fortnite with touch controls. The discussion includes my thought on whether or not Apple is upset with Epic Games going around the App Store to reach Apple users on Apple devices.

Google to Adjust Developer Fees in South Korea, In-App Payment Debate Is a Red Herring, Netflix Unveils Games for Android

Today's Above Avalon daily update includes the following stories:

  • Google to Adjust Developer Fees in South Korea

  • In-App Payment Debate Is a Red Herring

  • Netflix Unveils Games for Android

We begin with some good old mobile app strategy by looking at Google’s approach to South Korea’s anti-tech legislation aimed at app store payments. The discussion then turns to why I think in-app payment debates miss the big picture and end up being a red herring for what actually matters in mobile app land. The update concludes with a closer look at the surprises found with Netflix’s mobile gaming strategy (for Android) and possible implications they have on Apple and the App Store.

Today's Above Avalon daily update includes the following story:

  • Thoughts on the Epic Games vs. Apple Ruling

Last Friday, Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers issued her ruling in the Epic Game vs. Apple trial. Over the weekend, I finished my first full read through of her ruling (185 pages). Today's Above Avalon daily update includes the following stories:

  • Regulators Examining Sign in With Apple

  • Arizona’s Anti-Apple Bill Advances

  • Disney to Close 20% of Stores

We kick things off with my thoughts on regulators reportedly examining Apple’s “Sign in With Apple” functionality which removes the need to use social media accounts as sign-ins. The discussion then goes over why Arizona’s anti-Apple bill is so troubling (for consumers). We conclude with why I think Disney’s decision to close 20% of its retail stores is a gut punch to some and what the move tells us about Apple retail.
